Pessoa

by David H on March 28, 2010

But as an ironic spectator of myself, I’ve never lost interest in seeing what life brings. And since I now know beforehand that every vague hope will end in disillusion, I have the special delight of already enjoying the disillusion with the hope, like the bitter with the sweet that makes the sweet sweeter by way of contrast. I’m a sullen strategist who, having never won a battle, has learned to derive pleasure from mapping out the details of his inevitable retreat on the eve of each new engagement.

Oscars the Grouch

by David H on March 3, 2010

When I go over 140 characters, you will lose interest…

All quiet on the western front. A few videos being made. One might feature puppets. An EP in the works. Working out the kinks. Building up confidence.

We were invited to play a showcase at SXSW but due to lack of corporate funds we will not be gassing up the private jet and heading for Austin this year. I will put on my own SXSW (more of a WXW since I’m in Wyoming) if forty people show up to my apartment. I’ll give myself a funny haircut and play two hours of songs while you sit contemplatively and drink scotch. Sound like a deal?

And, since the Oscars are coming up, here’s a playlist of movies I recently enjoyed.

A serious man
Flame and Citron (WWII Untouchables?)
Paris, Texas (Harry Dean Stanton watches over us all in the night)
An Education (screenplay by Nick Hornby! who knew?)
Tyson (a documentary from Mike Tyson’s POV)
Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance (the best of this list in my opinion)

Thank you for continuing to support us by buying songs and the album from Itunes.

Stay tuned.

In Heaven everything is fine

January 19, 2010

“You’ve got your good things, and you’ve got mine.”
Last night I dreamt that I somehow got to heaven. I didn’t have to die to get there. I made it there with some friends and we were told not to wander away from the guided tour. Heaven was in a large office building. Everyone sat at [...]

Some thoughts from Brian Eno

Thumbnail image for Some thoughts from Brian Eno

Lately I am feeling mentally healthy enough to let myself be guided toward music through any number of directions, as long as something emerges at the other end.  I don’t know why I was searching for information on Eno tonight, but the first article I read really piqued my interest…
From an interview with Ian MacDonald.
“Beauty [...]

Cemetery Man

July 29, 2009

I found this movie on tv a couple weeks ago.  It is the perfect mix of absurdity and fear that makes it feel true to the way we perceive the world.  I found myself laughing hysterically, being horrified, in a state of disbelief, and with an overwhelming sense of hurtling through space with no destination [...]

Henry Miller.

July 26, 2009

“To radiate goodness is marvelous, because it is tonic, invigorating, vitalizing.  But just to be is still more marvelous, because it is endless and requires no demonstration.  To be is music, which is a profanation of silence in the interest of silence, and therefore beyond good and evil.  Music is the manifestation of action without [...]
